Yess! Please do yoga! I never fully realized how amazing it is for your body, mind and spirit until just recently. I was practicing on and off for two years but I was never consistent because I would let things get in the way! I didn’t know how helpful yoga would have been to help get me through some of those stressful times. It allows you to focus and hone your mind on moving your body with intention. It is a conscious connection between the mind, breath, and body; similar to meditation but in a physical form 🙂
Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fitness or athletic person. I just never felt the need to do intense workouts. When I discovered yoga, I was amazed that moving your body in intricate and curious positions could be a healthy workout. I am still a newbie to the practice so I absolutely love learning new ways to twist my body. Currently, I’m on a 30 day program and after doing yoga for a few days back to back, my body feels stronger and my mind is in a much more positive space because I’ve allowed time to recenter myself everyday.
Whatever workout you do, I encourage you to try yoga! It doesn’t matter if it’s at-home, in a class or even outdoors; in whatever aspect you choose, you definitely will not be disappointed. It is so relaxing yet brings the right amount of intensity to your body and also gives you major flexibility! If you are considering starting the practice or want to connect to a fellow yogi, I know a great yoga instructor that can help you on your journey.

What made you begin your yoga journey and how long have you been practicing?
I was a lyrical dancer for 2 years, practiced karate for over 7 years, and I’ve always been very physical. I was originally drawn to yoga because I wanted to do handstands and work on my flexibility. After I took my first yoga class in college, I realized there were healing aspects to the practice that surpassed physicality. Every time I practiced yoga, I noticed how much better I felt afterward, both mentally and physically. I was more relaxed, I wasn’t stressed out about exams, and I just felt better overall. I wanted to keep feeling that way and continued to go to class every week. I started studying natural alternatives to medicine, I fell in love with Ayurveda, and began meditating. After college I moved to Philadelphia and became a Yoga Alliance registered yoga instructor and have been on this journey ever since! I have been practicing for over 5 years.
Have you noticed any significant changes in your body since you began your practice?
Yes I definitely have. Here’s the list:
I have a greater sense of self love and a deeper connection of body awareness.
I’m more flexible and stronger.
I take deeper natural breaths
My endurance and stamina have increased.
I have better posture, and less tension in my back and neck
Interestingly enough, I’m able to think of very creative sex positions because of my deeper understanding of anatomy and body orientation
I have less stress and anxiety
And the list will continue!
What is something interesting you have learned from studying yoga?
From studying and living yoga, I now understand the power of breath. It’s the first thing we do when we enter this physical world and it’s the last thing we do as we’re existing. You can manipulate your breath to calm your mind, energize you, increase or decrease your body temperature, slow down your heart rate, etc. It’s one of the most powerful tools given to us, and it’s free!
In your opinion, what are the best benefits of doing yoga?
For me, the best benefits of yoga go deeper than the physical. Yes, if you practice regularly your body will naturally become more flexible and stronger but that’s not the focus.Yoga gave me a deeper understand of myself, as well as strength on and off the mat. It changed my perspective on life and I became more compassionate for others. I realized everyone is on this crazy shifting beautiful journey called life, and we’re not born with an owner’s manual to tell us how to live it. Think about it, no one really knows what they’re doing, we’re all just trying our best to survive to live and not just exist.
Yoga also led me to a more serious meditation practice and that has been my saving grace! When I feel my blood starting to boil or anxiety approaching, I stop everything and meditate. It’s literally a reset button for me and has positively changed how I navigate through life.
How has yoga impacted your life thus far?
Yoga has helped me see through societal pressures and has assisted me in becoming the greatest version of myself. I have more compassionate for others and myself, and everyday I’m learning how to ebb and flow with life.
Where do you teach yoga currently? Do you offer one on one sessions?
I currently teach at Advanced Therapeutics (1200 E Morehead St #190, Charlotte, NC) on Sundays mornings, Life Time Fitness (University) on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings, and sub at Noda Yoga.
Yes, I Do offer therapeutic private one on one sessions! I currently have special for new clients! For more information click the link below:
What level does one have to be to join your class?
All levels are welcomed! It doesn’t matter if you’re a first timer or an elite yogi, I teach to what I see.
Lastly, what message do you want to send out to those who are considering starting the practice?
You don’t have to be flexible, skinny, ”fit”, a certain race, or a certain gender to practice yoga. It is for everyone, and I believe everyone can benefit from this practice.
When you’re attending a class for the first time, understand that you don’t have to follow the instructors sequence precisely. If you wanted to stay in child’s pose for the whole duration of the class, that’s perfectly fine. The instructor is a guide and is there to create safe space. Do what feels good in your body on that day. Maybe you were able to pop into crow pose yesterday and today you may not be able to…and that’s ok. Don’t set expectations for yourself and realize that you’re not in competition with anyone. Yoga is a journey of the self, to the self, through the self.
